Viasat introduced its latest tactictal gateway innovation, the MOJO Mini Next, in May at SOF Week 2025.

At Viasat, we are steadfastly committed to delivering technologies and applications that support our government customers’ missions around the world. That commitment goes beyond delivering solutions for today; it means that we’re constantly innovating to deliver even greater value to our customers.

“Viasat has a long, proud history of pioneering tactical gateway innovations - delivering solutions that meet our customers’ current mission requirements and constantly evolving those products to deliver greater value and additional functionality as needs change,” said David Schmolke, Vice President of Mission Connections and Cybersecurity, Viasat Government.  “We are continuing to expand our portfolio of tactical gateway offerings, leveraging powerful software upgradeable and modular hardware that can adapt with mission requirements.”

Our Move Out/Jump Off (MOJO) family of tactical gateway solutions reflects a deliberate design evolution that aligns with how customers’ communications and missions are evolving. Over several years, Viasat’s tactical solutions team, within the Defense and Advanced Technologies segment, has evolved the MOJO as a more multi-domain, multi-enclave capability with increasingly compact, modular, and ruggedized platforms.

Viasat’s MOJO family integrates multi-channel radios with modular compute, data translation, m-code GPS, and networking capability that seamlessly integrates incompatible communications networks in a rapidly deployable suitcase size form-factor. The modular compute can host various mission and Common Operational Picture (COP) applications that enable edge users to quickly connect to the network and support tactical operations, including maneuvers and targeting.  The MOJO form factor allows it to be integrated onboard a variety of platforms — including ground vehicles, aero platforms and small maritime vessels.

This intentional design evolution is demonstrated in each generation of the MOJO platform - beginning with the first iteration multi-protocol, expeditionary MOJO gateway; adding enhanced processing, automation, security, and a lower-SWaP (size, weight, and power) and modular design; and now, the lowest SWaP-optimized form factor for mobility and integration with existing architectures.

Innovation Drives Adoption and Trust

What does this evolution mean for our government customers? Greater performance, more interoperability, tighter integration - all in smaller, more rugged systems. Our innovation is focused on the evolving operational demands for multi-domain operations and JADC2 environments - greater mobility, reduced footprint, faster deployment, and autonomy.

Viasat’s MOJO solutions are currently fielded across multiple branches supporting operations around the world. Achieving this milestone signals the continued growth of user confidence in Viasat to provide solutions that support communications needs at the edge.

Our Latest Innovation: MOJO Mini Next

This dedication to innovation most recently culminated in the release of MOJO Mini Next, which was formally introduced during SOF Week 2025. Our most compact tactical gateway to date, MOJO Mini Next continues to enhance integration of disparate air, sea, and land communications data into a common operating picture. Delivering a compact and ruggedized situational awareness capability, MOJO Mini Next was designed to be interoperable with any other Link-16 radio, as well as an additional communications channel with more waveforms for greater optionality.

For at-the-pause or on-the-move applications, the MOJO Mini Next is built to enable seamless, reliable, and resilient information sharing for command and control (C2), targeting, and real-time operational decision making.

“We take a customer-centric approach to innovation - collaborating to ensure we fully understand the mission needs and then evolve solutions based on that real-world feedback,” said Steve Karsten, General Manager, Tactical Communication Solutions (TCS) at Viasat. “The most important thing is giving customers confidence that they’ll have capability to securely connect and communicate effectively – wherever they are.”

Karsten continued, “We understand that if you’re not on the network, you’re not in the fight. Our tactical gateways are focused on increasing performance, interoperability, and delivering communications solutions that heighten situational awareness – all to support secure connections across multi-domain and joint operations environments.”
