Inmarsat Maritime’s NexusWave wins award for Maritime Mobility Innovation at MSUA 2026 Satellite Mobile Innovation Awards

03-25-2026

The fully managed service is redefining maritime communications through a unique network-bonding capability that delivers seamless and secure, high-speed connectivity at sea.

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 25, 2026 – Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, has won the Maritime Mobility Innovation award for its fully managed bonded connectivity service, NexusWave, at the Mobile Satellite Users Association (MSUA) 2026 Satellite Mobile Innovation Awards.

Purpose built for the evolving requirements of the maritime industry, NexusWave is redefining how vessels stay connected at sea. Rather than switching between networks, Inmarsat’s fully managed solution bonds them simultaneously, dynamically distributing and aggregating traffic across multiple links in real time to provide a seamless connectivity experience for operators and crews alike.

Alongside aggregated speeds of up to 340 megabits per second for downloads and 80 Mpbs for uploads achieved during the sea trials, NexusWave is designed to deliver unlimited data, secure-by-design infrastructure, and service availability exceeding 99.9%, even in high-demand connectivity areas. For ship operators, this facilitates digital operations, cloud-based applications, cyber-security controls, remote support, and real-time ship-to-shore data exchange, among other advanced use cases.

NexusWave also addresses the growing industry expectation that seafarers should experience the same level of digital access on board the vessel as they do on shore. The solution enables high-quality video calls, streaming, and social connectivity – thereby supporting crew well-being and retention in addition to compliance with developing maritime labour requirements.

Gert-Jan Panken, General Manager and Vice President, Inmarsat Maritime, said: “It is an honour to receive the MSUA Award for a solution that is redefining how vessels and their crews stay connected at sea. Representing a step change beyond traditional network switching models, Inmarsat’s multi-network bonding capability is unique in the maritime market. NexusWave is an experience-driven service designed around operational outcomes and crew satisfaction, with embedded cybersecurity capabilities that strengthen vessel resilience and protect critical operations, which is increasingly important in today’s landscape.”

NexusWave customers include some of the world’s leading shipping companies, such as Evergreen, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Anglo-Eastern, Caribe Tankers, EXMAR, and many more. The solution can be scaled from individual vessels to entire global fleets and is designed to enable the seamless integration of new satellite capacity as it becomes available.
