India and the Increasing Demand for Connectivity on the Go

2-minute read

At Viasat, we understand how important it is to stay connected while on the go. Fast, reliable connectivity that enables us to keep in touch with family, current events, and even the office is – for many of us - a vital part of our daily lives. And this is increasingly true in many parts of the world, including India.

According to a report in January 2023 by the IMF, India’s economy projects to grow 6.1% this year, the most among large economies. This projection, coupled with India’s growing population, makes for rapidly growing business and leisure travel industry. India is one country where demand for connectivity on the go is accelerating.

“In many parts of India, expectations for connectivity are much higher than just a decade ago,” said Sathya Narayanaswamy, Viasat’s vice president of India. “With the ubiquity of technology similar to other places around the world, Indians are wanting to stay connected wherever they are, including when they travel.”

Already one of the largest civil aviation markets in the world, commercial aviation in India continues to boom in parallel with economic strength. As such, the demand for in-flight connectivity (IFC) is projected to soar as well.

At Viasat, we are well positioned to meet this demand. We have a long history of optimizing passengers’ connected experiences in-flight with airlines on several continents.

“We plan to bring that same level of quality to India,” said Shameem Hashmi, Viasat’s vice president and general manager of global markets. “In addition to optimizing passengers’ connected experiences, the Viasat network also enables airline customers to enhance passenger loyalty, improve operating efficiencies and increase revenue generating opportunities through ancillary content and application programs.”

The travel industry in India is on the rise, and IFC will play a big role in its future growth. With Viasat’s world-class in-flight connectivity, travelers can stay connected throughout their journey, from take-off to touchdown. Everyone deserves access to stay connected and we’re committed to making that a reality for travelers in India. We’re excited to be part of the journey and look forward to providing our world-class in-flight Wi-Fi experience to passengers for years to come.
