Think of Viasat’s network like a highway. When the road is clear, everyone can drive at a normal speed and avoid traffic jams. When there’s more traffic, like around rush hour, cars move slower. And just like highway traffic, congestion happens at peak times, like evenings, when lots of people are going online for streaming and music after a day of work or school. To help make traffic more manageable, Viasat implements traffic management policies putting users in green, yellow or red statuses based on usage.

• If you are in a green status during congestion, it’s like being in the “high-occupancy vehicle (HOV)” lane, you are moving faster than other traffic around you.
• If you are in red status, you are with the other cars in traffic, moving slower than someone in green status or yellow status.
• If you are in yellow status, you are falling in the middle-experiencing faster speeds than those in red status, but not in the HOV lane with green status customers.

The best way to avoid congestion-related speed issues is to monitor and control your usage by staying in the green or yellow status.

You can monitor your usage by using the Usage Meter tool that is available in My Viasat under the "Usage" tab. The tool is intended to help you:

• View your overall usage and how it compares to other users in your area.
• Using the data Usage Score "gauge," you can see your daily usage along with the total data usage over 30 days, 60 days, 90 days

If you change to a Viasat Unleashed plan, you will be responsible for the remaining months left on your contract. If you are out of contract, you will then be on a month-to-month contract.

Because the new Unleashed plans are Unlimited, you no longer need to pay for Office Hours. You will have the same daily usage experience with Unleashed at no additional charge!

The monthly lease fee is $15 per month or if you purchased the Lifetime Lease fee, you will not have a monthly charge.

Your plan comes with the Viasat Wi-Fi enabled modem that includes built-in Wi-Fi capability but adding a separate standalone Wi-Fi system provides the best performance for multiple devices connecting wirelessly to your network.

 
Although not required to use your Viasat service, it’s highly recommended that you purchase a standalone Wi-Fi router if your home is one-level and up to 1000 square feet. If you have a larger or multi-level home, we strongly suggest a mesh Wi-Fi system. Learn more HERE.
