Data Allowance Policy Overview

To ensure equitable network access for all customers and prevent heavy usage by a few from degrading overall network performance, Viasat has implemented a Data Allowance Policy (DAP).

Unlimited Plans have a monthly data threshold of High-Speed Data.

  • After you reach your High-Speed Data usage, you will continue to receive unlimited data, referred to as Standard Data. Click here to learn how to purchase more High-Speed Data for your Unlimited plan.
  • Viasat may prioritize Standard data behind other customers during network congestion, which will result in slower speeds.  

  • The Data Allowance Policy ensures that all Viasat customers get a fair amount of access to the Internet over our network.

  • The best way to determine your data usage allowance is to see what plan you're on by logging in to My Viasat

  • When you reach 100% of your monthly data usage allowance, we will send an email alert to your account's contact email address on file.
  • You can also view your current data usage on My Viasat.
  • Your service or particular uses of your service may be substantially slowed and restricted. Certain web pages and applications will take significantly longer to load and not view some services.

  • Your service, or particular uses of your service, will be very slow or curtailed:
    • Streaming a high-definition (HD) video requires a substantial amount of bandwidth
      • The video will not load, or it takes an extremely long time for videos to download
      • Emails with no attachment can be sent and received with minimal delay

  • Yes! Your data usage allowance will automatically reset to the amount included with your package (e.g., 10 GB).
    • If your package includes a Free Zone, all restrictions will be removed during that time. Unsure what plan you're on? Log into your My Viasat to see your current plan.
    • You can change your package to one with a higher data usage allowance. You can change your package at any time on My Viasat.
  • You can buy more data, and the data will be at normal speeds. Click HERE to learn how to buy more High-Speed Data.
 

  • You can monitor your current data usage online on My Viasat.
  • When your usage reaches 70% and 90% (with the exception of some plans) of the data allowance in a monthly measurement period (the measurement period is the same as the billing cycle), we will send a notification email alert to the email address on file.
  • You will receive an additional email alert when you reach 100% of your monthly data allowance.

Yes, you can make a payment in My Viasat in advance of your billing date.

 

  • Viasat's Free Zone provides 3-5 hours of 100% un-metered, fast speeds to download or upload movies, games, music, and software updates. Upload photo galleries, blog postings, and videos to perform online backups. 
  • Speeds are restored, and restrictions are lifted at the beginning of the Free Zone.
  • Data usage does not count towards your monthly data usage allowance.
  • If you have already used up your Data Allowance for the month, you can still use the Free Zone at the normal speed.

  • You will receive a notification when you have used 70% and 90% of your data usage. Your usage exceeded at least 70% or 90% of your data usage allowance when the notification was sent to you. The email is a real-time email notification. 
  • Please disregard the usage notification email if your current usage is below 70% or 90%.
