Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is like a secure tunnel that connects your device to the internet. When you use a VPN, your internet traffic goes through this tunnel, which hides your real location and encrypts your data. This means:

  • Privacy: Your online activities are harder for others to see, including your internet service provider (ISP) and potential hackers.
  • Security: Your data is protected, especially when using public Wi-Fi.
  • Access: You can access websites and content that might be blocked in your country, as the VPN makes it look like you're in a different location.

In simple terms, a VPN helps keep your internet connection safe and private, and it can also help you access more of the internet.

  • VPNs and other remote computer access software such as those used to connect business servers to at-home workers may be very slow with Viasat Internet.

  • Some VPNs may not work at all. Other “SSL”-based VPNs may work just fine.

  • Try disconnecting your VPN. If your service works fine without the VPN, but you experience problems, such as very slow speeds, when your VPN is connected, this is an indicator your VPN may not be compatible with the Viasat network.

  • Your VPN provider - likely your employer - may require specific security or firewall settings in order to connect successfully to the internet. Contact your VPN provider for troubleshooting.

  • Viasat does not provide technical support for VPN connections.

  • If you need help setting up, using, or troubleshooting your VPN connections, please contact your VPN provider.
