Helpful Hints for Interns

When is the best time to apply?

While we always love to hear from talented students, if you looking to apply to our summer internship program we encourage you to apply during the fall academic term. Otherwise, your best bet is to explore our current job openings and apply to those that interest you the most!

How do I apply?

Let us know you’re interested by submitting your application here. We also host many events at colleges and universities across the country each year so we can meet students in person and spread the word about our fantastic intern and new grad opportunities, and would love for you to stop by and meet our team. To see if we will be visiting your campus soon, check out our upcoming University Events.

What are the requirements for an internship?

When you’re ready to apply to be a part of our team, here is what you will need:

  • Proof of acceptance or current enrollment in a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD level program from an accredited university
  • At least one academic term remaining upon completion of your internship
  • Available to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer

Do you have technical and non-technical internships?

Yes! We offer a variety of internship opportunities to work alongside our team of fearless, clever and focused professionals in Engineering, Operations, Finance, IT, Human Resources, and more.

How long is the internship?

Our internship program is typically 10-12 weeks and runs from May to August or June to September depending on your school’s summer schedule. We’re flexible and our internship program is too!

Will the internship be paid?

Yes, definitely! We keep a close eye on market trends to ensure we offer competitive compensation for all employees including interns, and relocation assistance is also offered where needed.

What happens to my resume after I apply online?

Our team of university recruiters will review your application to see if your background and interests are a fit for our requirements. If our recruiters think you might be a potential match, they will reach out to schedule a call to discuss your skills and experience in more detail. If you don’t hear from us right away, don’t get discouraged, keep looking for open jobs, and feel free to follow-up with us when we visit your campus.

What project will I work on?

Our collaborative, challenging and innovative culture is what makes our internship program uniquely Viasat. You won’t find yourself filing, running errands, or organizing electronic folders because our recruiters are expert matchmakers! They work tirelessly to match your skills, background, expertise, and interests with the right internship opportunity. Whether you’re helping us develop “can’t be done” technology or solving our most important operational challenges, we guarantee your experience will be unforgettable and the connections you make will be lasting.

Will intern housing be provided?

If you need for us to arrange housing during your internship, several flexible options are available. Your recruiter will be ready to discuss available options based on your needs.

Will transportation for interns be provided?

All interns are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from Viasat campus. We recommend checking out the options available/recommended at the office location you choose. Generally speaking, we have vanpool, carpool, public transportation, and cycling clubs that interns take advantage of.

What should I wear as an intern?

At Viasat we’re more interested in making an innovative statement than a fashion statement so don’t bother with the loafers and khakis. We think great work happens in jeans and flip-flops, and sneakers and shorts. As long as it’s appropriate for a casual office setting it will work for us. So be yourself, get comfortable and let’s do some great work!

Does an internship lead to full-time employment?

Our internship program is a great way to develop and demonstrate your skills, get a taste of our culture and yes, many of our current employees came to us through internships. You’ll have an opportunity to talk with past interns while at Viasat and hear their unique stories.
