ViaSat Part of Prime Contract Valued up to $10 Billion in Support of U.S. ARMY Global Tactical Advanced Communications Systems (GTACS)

CARLSBAD, Calif., Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Army has named ViaSat Inc. (Nasdaq:VSAT) as one of 20 prime contractors that will compete to deliver systems to address quickly evolving communication requirements for military units and disaster response teams. Under the Global Tactical Advanced Communications Systems (GTACS) program, valued at up to $10 billion, ViaSat will compete to supply tactical Command, Control and Communications (C3) system hardware, software, engineering, logistics, development, test, and system related support.

Tactical C3 requirements are changing so rapidly that there is a corresponding need to change to a more responsive acquisition system that minimizes or eliminates unnecessary repetitive administrative functions. Previously, GTACS requirements were being satisfied by numerous program management offices, product managers, the DoD, and other Federal agencies under many different procurement instruments/contracts. The new GTACS contract consolidates those to serve several agencies and departments from the defense, homeland security, and military services. The contract structure will allow for competitive delivery order awards among pre-qualified contractors, maintaining competition throughout the five-year contract period.

“We’re looking forward to supporting the mission and objectives of the U.S. Army with our advanced communication systems,” said Bill Connelly, general manager of ViaSat Tactical Satellite Networks. “We have a history of competing very well under these types of procurement contracts because of the new ideas, innovative designs, and cost savings we can deliver.”
