Viasat Expands its Premium Residential Internet Service in Brazil by 14 States; Now Offers Satellite Internet to More Than 93% of the Country’s Population

Designed for all Consumers and Available Across Five Major Regions, Internet Service Helps Close Brazil’s Digital Gap SÃO PAULO, Sept. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Viasat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT), a global communications company, announced today the expansion of its reliable, high-quality residential internet service to 14 additional states in Brazil. In July, Viasat launched its Brazil residential service in seven states and the Federal District. With its latest expansion, Viasat now offers service to more than 93% of the country’s population across 21 states and the Federal District. The company expects to be the only satellite internet service provider (ISP) capable of making high-speed internet available across 100 percent of the country, upon completion of the residential launch rollout.

Brazilian residents across all five regions of the country can now subscribe to Viasat’s satellite internet service with speeds up to 20 Megabits per second (Mbps) and data-rich packages that offer up to 80 Gigabytes (GB) of data per month, enabling them to enjoy online access for daily activities including social media, video streaming content, video call services, work-from-home, online education, sending/receiving emails and unlimited chat and web browsing.

Viasat’s expanding residential internet service in Brazil
Viasat’s residential internet service for Brazil uses bandwidth from the Telebras SGDC-1 satellite to deliver satellite internet services. Today, the service is expanding to 14 additional states including Santa Catarina, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Bahia, Ceará, Alagoas, Sergipe, Maranhão, Pará, Rondônia, Amapá, and Acre. Viasat’s residential internet service initially launched in July in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Amazonas and the Federal District. The service will be rolled out across the country, with an expected completion date before the end of 2020.

Simplified to fit the needs of Brazilian internet users, Viasat offers two plans: a basic plan (Viasat 10Mega) and an advanced plan (Viasat 20Mega). Each plan includes download speeds of up to 10 Mbps and 20 Mbps, respectively, along with in-home Wi-Fi. Viasat’s Brazil plans are competitively priced and include unique features, such as unlimited chat and browsing and a free zone from 2:00 AM to 7:00 AM local time.

“The expansion of Viasat’s residential service means that more Brazilians now have access to reliable, high-speed satellite-based internet service, even in the hardest-to-reach locations,” said Bruno Soares Henriques, commercial director, Viasat Brazil. “From our initial launch, we have seen tremendous demand for high-quality internet service in states including São Paulo and Amazonas. Bringing our connectivity to 14 additional states provides us with an opportunity to help connect even more people in unserved or underserved areas. The expansion of our residential internet service demonstrates our commitment to Brazil.”

Viasat has been investing in Brazil since 2018 and has set up a team with local expertise that is highly motivated to deliver the most impactful connectivity solutions to the Brazilian people. Viasat is working with Visiontec to provide in-market sales, fulfillment, and technical support expertise for the residential internet service.
