ViaSat Exede High-Speed Internet to be offered by DIRECTV

Carlsbad, Calif. – May 17, 2012 – ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT) has added another wide-reaching channel to distribute its high-speed ExedeSM by ViaSat satellite Internet service. A new agreement with DIRECTV initiates plans to add ExedeSM high-speed Internet service to a selection of video and broadband bundles for the home. Introduced in January, Exede delivers speeds of up to 12 Mbps (megabits per second) via the highest capacity satellite in the world.
“Satellite TV customers are a natural fit for our Exede service, making this an important part of our distribution strategy,” said Mark Dankberg, ViaSat chairman and CEO. “Exede’s fast broadband connections offer an Internet service that will complement the DIRECTV connected home video experience. This new agreement creates an opportunity to shape a high-speed Internet bundle that helps DIRECTV subscribers get even greater value from their service.”

The speed of Exede Internet service makes it very competitive with wireless home broadband service as well as legacy DSL and many cable services. The satellite Internet service, now available in all 50 states, brings together the highest capacity satellite in the world, next-generation ground equipment, and breakthrough web acceleration technology. The service offers speeds up to 12 Mbps downstream and up to 3 Mbps upstream beginning at $50 per month.
