Errata Notes - VDC
Applicable to AN/PSC-5 users:
The production models of the AN/PSC-5 radio other than the 5C and 5D versions have exhibited a problem such that if the radio is in FSK mode, using Cypher Text, receiving in either VINSON or Fascinator modes and the radio transmits for <300ms the radio will lock in transmit mode. As a temporary work-around it is recommended that the ViaSat eMail "Tx Start Delay" be set to 0.3. By doing so, this will prevent the AN/PSC5 from entering a 'lock in transmit' state when subsequently transmitting short data bursts.
Applicable to ViaSat eMail 1.4.0 users:
For users of Windows 2000: The firmware download to a VDC-400 sometimes fails the first attempt; the workaround is to simply perform another download to this device.
For users of Windows 2000: When some laptops are rebooted, the VDC-400 PCMCIA device is incorrectly reported to be a MTD-0002. The workaround is to remove and reinsert the VDC-400 card and Windows 2000 will then correctly identify the VDC-400.
For users of Windows 2000: There is a known issue with the installation process of ViaSat VMail version 1.4. The error does not ocurr on all installations. You may have seen an error of "VSPDC2K.SYS file is needed" or "VSPDC2K.INF file is needed". To correct the installation error, manually copy the VSPDC2K.SYS and/or VSPDC2K.INF file from the VMail CD to C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 on your local hard drive.
Applicable to all ViaSat eMail versions:
The person who configures the PC must be aware of the file associations made in Window 95/98 and NT 4.0. The associated program (file) must be available and executable under the 16bit subsystem of these operating systems. The associated file becomes important when the user of VMAIL tries to view an attachment with the associated program. For example, when a user double clicks an attached eMail file, it will prompt the user for where to save the file and subsequently launch the associated program with that attachment. Some associations are incompatible with the 16bit subsystems and will not run such as rundll32.exe (the associated program) running a DLL to play a WAV file (the attachment).
For NT 4.0, removing or 'Hot Swapping' of the PCMCIA card is NOT recommended. When using VMAIL and a VDC-400 on NT 4.0, once the VDC-400 is inserted, it should remain in the slot until the system is powered down. If desired, VMAIL will allow you to put the VDC-400 in a power down mode to conserve battery power.
Applicable to some older versions of ViaSat eMail (i.e., 1.2.x, 1.3.x):
While receiving data during a file transfer (non-FTP), the Status Log reports the transfer under the EMAIL category.
When loading 5k DAMA Message Service preset, the Channel Mode is incorrectly set to Duplex (Acks). To correct this preset, change Duplex to Simplex and resave the Preset.
