ViaSat VSAT Networks Gains Lead in China Market Share According to CCID Consulting

2005-09-21 - VSAT Networks

Norcross, GA - ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT) has risen to the top of the China market for two-way satellite data systems through the first six months of 2005, capturing a 43% market share according to a report published by CCID Consulting Company, Ltd. The market share figure is more than three times its nearest competitor. The market study, titled Report on Development Trend of Two-way VSAT Satellite Communication Market in China, says the China market has shifted to one needing more broadband, two-way services, and is seeking innovative new satellite networking systems to handle those demands.

According to CCID, one-way, broadcast systems represented 77% of installed VSATs (Very Small Aperture Terminals) in China through the end of 2004, but those systems cannot meet new service requirements for applications such as remote education, remote medical care, equity trading, business networking, and government emergency communications. The report states that, with the development and variation of the VSAT satellite communications market, some new VSAT manufacturers are growing up, while some originally powerful providers are going down slope.

Regarding ViaSat, CCID states, Not only its market share is in the leading place, but also it enjoys high reputation. Factors cited for ViaSat success in the China market include stable product performance, high-quality equipment, ability to support innovative applications, higher product cost-performance ratio, and strong in-country technical support.

CCID Consulting also sees continuing growth in demand for satellite networking in China, predicting sales growth of 20% annually for VSAT equipment and 30% per year for VSAT services over the next five years. The study projects that the growth will result from national trends in developing retail markets, more widespread government services, growing needs for enterprise networking, global growth of Ka- and Ku-band broadband services, and Chinas desire to extend access to science and education resources in a harmonic information society for all citizens.
