Norcross, GA - ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT) has been selected by Kongsberg Satellite Services AS (KSAT) of Tromsø, Norway to provide a 7.3-meter X-band receive and S-band Telemetry, Tracking & Command (TT&C) antenna system. The antenna system is part of a new KSAT ground station, called TrollSat, that is under development at 72°S 2°E in Antarctica and is expected to begin operation in February, 2006. The value of the contract is approximately $2.2 million.
Kongsberg Satellite Services is a Norwegian enterprise providing TT&C, global data dump, and operational Earth Observation services based on data from polar orbiting satellites. KSAT recently signed a contract with Orbimage Inc. of Virginia, USA for data download and control of the OrbView-5 (Nextview 2) satellite, which is expected to launch in 2007. The company already operates two ground stations; the Tromsø Station at 69°39´N 18°56´E and Svalbard Satellite Station (SvalSat) at 78°15´N 15°80´E.
