Norcross, GA - The United States Air Force has awarded a firm-fixed-price study contract to ViaSat Inc. (Nasdaq: VSAT) to examine the feasibility of migrating L-/S-band, and S-band Range Telemetry Tracking antennas to higher frequency bands. The tri-service study will determine how already-installed antennas might be modified to operate at higher, less crowded RF frequencies to eliminate the signal congestion encroaching on the L-/S-Band RF frequency range.
The three-month study, conducted by ViaSat's Satellite Ground Systems division, will critically examine three sample antenna systems: one each at Edwards AFB, CA (Air Force); White Sands Missile Range, NM (Army); and the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, Point Mugu, CA (Navy). The resulting report will provide low-cost, mid-cost, and higher-cost recommendations for a range of modification options that would convert the systems to operate at higher RF frequencies.
ViaSat produces innovative satellite and other wireless communication products that enable fast, easy, and efficient communications to any location. ViaSat has a full line of VSAT products for data and voice applications, and is rapidly building market share in Ka-band satellite systems, from user terminals to large gateways. Other products include information security devices, tactical communication radios, and communication simulators. ViaSat has locations in Carlsbad, CA, and Norcross, GA, along with its Comsat Laboratories division in Clarksburg, MD. Additional field offices are located in Boston, MA, Washington DC, Australia, Italy, China, and India.
