IcaruNet satellite network communications enable the transport of data pertaining to all applications for monitoring and control of remote plants, often located in mountain areas exposed to highly inclement weather conditions. Moreover, to solve visibility problems linked to natural obstacles (mountains, wooded areas, etc.), an integrated configuration based on Skylogic’s advanced D-StarTMplatform is active at Turin’s Skypark, based on ViaSat technology. This configuration allows the traffic distributed on different satellites to converge on Wind’s terrestrial backbone.
Founded in 1997, Wind Telecomunicazioni SpA is one of the few operators in Europe to offer integrated services of fixed and mobile telephony along with Internet access. Wind is the first alternative operator on the fixed telephony market, it is first in Italy among Internet portals (with Libero), and it is one of Italy’s leading Internet Service Providers (ISP). Today, the company is Italy’s third largest mobile operator, with a market share of 18.3%. Wind has 14.7 million mobile clients, over 1 million clients with direct access in fixed telephony and 763 thousand with broadband access.
Wind Integrates IcarusNet/Skylogic Satellite Network
Monitoring and remote control of electrical energy production and distribution plants and systems includes a certain number of extremely critical elements, requiring a network infrastructure with extremely reliable features.

For this reason, Wind Telecomunicazioni SpA, one of the leading players in the Italian telecommunications market, is integrating IcarusNet satellite communication services into its own network infrastructure, with the goal of offering its customers a complete network, featuring extremely high reliability and scalability.
The project already has nearly 400 active satellite terminals in sites distributed throughout Italy to complement terrestrial terminations (both wired and wireless). Satellite connections will be integrated into the Wind backbone to configure a redundant, scalable network architecture for current and future needs.

By virtue of the flexibility offered by the network solutions developed and operated by IcarusNet, in cooperation with Skylogic, they are able to offer configurations for Internet/VPN access, as well as for temporary/mobile use: for example, sites for power plants under construction, emergency services, etc.
IcarusNet collaborated with Wind in defining the satellite network integration specifications for the complete design and, as part of a master contract, it is in charge of the roll-out with installations, activation, maintenance, and data transport services via satellite.

The Company also has an articulated, innovative mobile radio network with over 10,000 base radio stations. Coverage abroad is assured by numerous roaming agreements.
