Norcross, GA - ViaSat Inc. (Nasdaq: VSAT) has received a firm-fixed-price contract from the Swedish Space Corporation for a high performance Data Reception and Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) ground system for its Esrange facilities near Kiruna, Sweden.
The 7-meter full motion satellite tracking system includes a Dual Drive elevation/azimuth/train pedestal, an autotracking X-Band selectable polarization receive feed, an autotracking S-Band simultaneous dual polarization receive/transmit feed, X-band converters suited for fiber optics, and other RF and fiber optic equipment. The system also includes ViaSat's new series 3880 Antenna Control Unit, plus a local monitor and control computer with remote capability.
The satellite ground system will be able to receive data from the most advanced earth observation satellites, using high-bandwidth X-band data downlinks. In addition, full S-Band TT&C uplink and downlink functions are part of the system, which complements Swedish Space Corporation's showplace of antenna systems. After design and manufacturing in ViaSat's Satellite Ground Systems facilities in Norcross, the system will be staged and tested at its pattern and boresight range. ViaSat will then integrate, install, test and commission the equipment on-site near Kiruna, north of the Artic Circle.
