ViaSat Inc. is opening a new office in Tampa, Florida to support the ongoing demand for the company’s government information assurance products and services. Employees began moving into the new office, ViaSat’s 11th office location in the United States, in June. An open house is planned for late summer.
The new office will occupy 6,000 square feet at 5550 W. Idlewild Ave in the TIA Airport Area, the western anchor of the Florida High Tech Corridor. The other ViaSat office in the Southeast is located in Duluth, Georgia, and is home to the company’s Commercial Satellite Networks group.
“We made a strategic decision to expand in the Southeast to help serve our growing base of government and military information security clients and partners,” said Mark Dankberg, CEO and chairman of ViaSat. “Tampa is an ideal location for us because it is close to ViaSat customers and the region is a strong source of experienced engineers with Type 1 security clearances. We have been very successful in locating offices in areas that coincide with the opportunities we see in our markets. Our Tampa office follows that model, and will add another level of information security expertise for our customers.”
“Tampa is a great location to work, live, and attract top engineering talent – with four major universities in the Central Florida region,” said Fred Rhyne, director of the ViaSat Tampa office. “Our Information Assurance business is one of our fastest growing and we have set aggressive hiring goals to meet demand, including adding senior software and hardware system engineers and senior engineering managers. We are planning to hire up to 20 high-level employees by the end of the year and expect to grow this operation as we continue to invest in, and expand, our information assurance business.”
ViaSat is internationally recognized for its superior record of growth and performance:
- #90 in the Forbes 200 Best Small Companies

ViaSat AltaSec® information assurance products protect data on classified defense, government, and homeland security networks with powerful, programmable encryption technology, compliant with the HAIPE® IS encryption standard. The company’s product line includes the KG-250 Inline Network Encryptor (INE), the first NSA-certified Foreign Interoperable (FI) HAIPE encryptor on the market.
ViaSat is working programs to embed its programmable information assurance technology into a variety of radios and terminals as well. Examples include work as part of the Boeing team working on the Family of Advanced Beyond-line-of-sight Terminals (FAB-T) program and development of the cryptographic subsystem for the Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS). In addition, the company is working with the Air Force to design and develop the next generation Telemetry, Tracking, and Control (TT&C) cryptographic unit, a product that can replace a dozen different legacy TT&C encryptors with a single, reprogrammable device.
The company is also developing “data at rest” security products and was selected last year by the National Security Agency (NSA) to manufacture its KG-200 and KG-201 In-Line Media Encryptors (IMEs) and to develop the next generation of high assurance storage media security products. These IME products will be introduced to the market later this year.
