Carlsbad, CA – ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ:VSAT) has appointed Midcoast Aviation and Savannah Air Center as value added resellers for its airborne mobile broadband terminals for business and commercial aircraft. Midcoast Aviation is a full-service AS9100-certified aircraft maintenance, modifications, and completions provider based at St. Louis Downtown Airport in Cahokia, IL. Savannah Air Center (SAC), located at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, is a full-service aviation center and offers corporate aircraft operators maintenance, avionics installation and repair, interior completions, and refurbishment.
The combination of ViaSat airborne broadband equipment and Yondersm data and voice service provides passengers with a high-speed, office-in-the-sky experience that is on-par with the latest in home and office IP network applications and services, extending network access or home theater content to any seat on the aircraft.
“We’re introducing our new VMT-1500 terminal designed for large business jets such as the Gulfstream G550 and the Global XRS,” said Don Buchman, ViaSat director of Mobile Broadband. “Both Midcoast Aviation and the Savannah Air Center have earned a reputation for quality of installation and service that we look for in naming our reseller partners. Their worldwide presence allows them to provide excellent after-sales support anywhere their customers fly.”
The VMT-1500 airborne mobile broadband terminal features ViaSat-patented ArcLight® technology. The ArcLight system uses a very small, lightweight antenna, but enables large antenna performance. The Ku-band satellite terminal offers data download speeds of up to 10 Mbps to the aircraft and up to 512 kbps uploads. Customers can send and receive broadband data, connect to a virtual private network, and access video programming using portable devices or onboard TVs.
“We’re looking forward to offering our customers the advantages of ViaSat mobile broadband,” said Blake Hogge, senior manager, avionics and maintenance sales for Midcoast Aviation.
“We are ready to assist clients with installation of this office-in-the-sky technology,” added Lamont Durante, manager, avionics for Savannah Air Center.
Aircraft equipped with a ViaSat airborne terminal can use ViaSat Yondersm service anywhere within the ViaSat network, which extends from Moscow westward across the Atlantic Ocean, North America, the Pacific Ocean, and into Japan and Southeast Asia. The network is continuing to expand through the cooperation of ViaSat and maritime service-provider KVH Industries, with the goal of providing worldwide coverage by the end of 2010.
