Live Demonstration Will Feature New System for Mobile IP Broadband, Video, and Situational Awareness
Carlsbad, CA – ViaSat Inc. and AMERICOM Government Services (AGS) will debut an innovative Ku-band satcom terminal and turnkey Command and Control on the Move (C2OTM) service Oct. 9 to 11 at the 2006 AUSA Annual Meeting & Exposition in Washington, D.C. Live mobile satcom demonstrations of the system may be seen at ViaSat’s booth number 1464.
During the demonstrations, two vehicles will communicate via broadband IP access. One vehicle, equipped with the new ViaSat mid-profile mobile satcom system and using AGS commercial Ku-band satellite-powered C2OTM service, will be driving in the San Diego, CA area and another vehicle will be parked in the ViaSat booth at AUSA. The IP-connected vehicles will demonstrate Communications on the Move (COTM) capabilities such as live video conferencing, streaming video, and C2PC Command Post Situational Awareness.
The demonstration will show how the ViaSat ArcLight® waveform is a major breakthrough in the field of on-the-move satellite communications, enabling a smaller, mid-profile antenna and using intelligent burst transmission control technology. The technology overcomes the challenges of co-existence with other services using the same frequency spectrum and blockage caused by line of sight obstructions. The transmission technology makes it the only commercially available Ku satcom system that can be used on all types of platforms, including ground vehicles, rotary-wing aircraft, and other mobile manned or unmanned vehicles, aircraft, and ships.
Connected through the AGS turnkey service, the system meets the needs of tactical military users and delivers superior, affordable, two-way ”always-on” broadband access via satellite on the move. The system is operating on several platforms ranging from Blackhawk helicopters to HMMWVs. It is the only fully licensed system available for moving Ku-band satcom and is ideal for U.S. Department of Defense, Coalition Forces, and Homeland Security applications.
