Import Figures Show ViaSat Captures 50% of Argentine Market for Broadband Terminals
Duluth, GA ViaSat Inc. will supply its LinkStar® broadband satellite networking system to Comsat International Argentina to expand the availability of enterprise broadband networking in Argentina and the surrounding region. The new LinkStar network began operation in May.
"With the addition of the LinkStar system we are significantly expanding our role in expanding Broadband Digital Service in Argentina," said Julian Volberg, general manager, Comsat Argentina. "With both network technologies, Comsat International can offer every client in Latin America the network service most appropriate to their needs."
"With Comsat establishing its Broadband IP service hub in Argentina we are increasing our position as the leading satellite broadband provider in this region," said Hugo Frega, ViaSat regional director for Latin America. "Since 2002, when the current generation of broadband satellite communication hubs were established in Argentina, through April 2006, our customers have imported approximately 1,100 broadband VSATs (Very Small Aperture Terminals). We have captured approximately 50% of the market for broadband, interactive satellite communications terminals in Argentina since 2002, according to figures from the Administraci�n Federal de Ingresos P�blicos (AFIP)."
Comsat International already operates over 4,000 sites on a LinkStar system in Brazil as well as over 5,000 sites using the ViaSat DOCSIS�-for-satellite system (SurfBeam) in Colombia.
