Finalized Subcontract from The Boeing Company for Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Cluster 1 HAIPIS-compliant Security Architecture

Carlsbad, CA - ViaSat Inc. (Nasdaq: VSAT) and The Boeing Company have finalized a $3.7 million subcontract for ViaSat to develop, integrate, test, deliver and support the Security Architecture for the Cluster 1 Wideband Networking Waveform (WNW) of the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS). This award definitizes a previously awarded letter contract from Boeing. (Press release of 10/17/02.)

The JTRS is a family of software programmable tactical radios that will provide the armed forces with voice, data, and video capability. The state-of-the-art radios are based on a common Software Communications Architecture (SCA) to ensure interoperability with existing systems and simplify future technology upgrades.

As part of this subcontract, ViaSat is tasked with defining and implementing enhancements to the High Assurance Internet Protocol Interoperability Specification (HAIPIS), for use over radio networks. ViaSat is a member of the HAIPIS Working Group, and intends to submit the enhancements to the working group for incorporation into the HAIPIS standard. The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] was selected by the U.S. Army's Communications-Electronics Command as the prime system engineering contractor of the multi-year, multimillion-dollar contract to develop the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS), a revolutionary communications system that will be the foundation for all future Department of Defense tactical radios. If the contract is fully executed, the baseline plus options could exceed $2 billion for the initial system development and demonstration and low-rate initial production phases of the program, referred to as Cluster 1.

ViaSat produces innovative satellite and other wireless communication products that enable fast, easy, and efficient communications to any location.
