Network offers efficient communication for low-rate or broadband services
Duluth, GA - ViaSat is supplying a LinkStar broadband network to CELCOM, through network integrator Digisky Sdn Berhad, for shared-hub satellite network services in Malaysia. CELCOM, a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia, has also chosen to include ViaSat hub software that makes the network compatible with the Digital Video Broadcast Return Channel Satellite (DVB-RCS) international standard for interoperability.
CELCOM plans to offer network services from a hub located in Kuala Lumpur for applications that need fast access and low-rate transactional data such as banking, equity trading, and data acquisition, as well as high-speed, secure virtual private networks for enterprise customers.
The LinkStar broadband network has given CELCOM an edge in terms of its versatile, advanced VSAT technology. The system will enable CELCOM to meet its objectives for efficiency and reliability in providing VSAT services to the fast growing Malaysian market, said Mr. Jasri Jamaluddin, managing director of Digisky.
LinkStar, a hub-based star networking system, includes enterprise-level features such as DiffServ QOS and multi-label protocol switching support that enable many customers to share a single VSAT hub, while keeping their data separate and secure from other users. ViaSat dynamic bandwidth allocation increases or decreases data rates on-the-fly to adjust to each customer and use the available satellite bandwidth in the most efficient way. Shipments of LinkStar terminals now total more than 100,000.
Digisky will implement the network using C-band capacity on the Measat-1 satellite. Customers will be able to select data rate options of 256 or 512 kbit/s on the inbound (remotes to hub) and up to 5 Mbit/s on the outbound. The system can expand to 3.3 Mbit/s uploads from remote sites and up to 45 Mbit/s downloads from the hub.
We are confident that our LinkStar technology will make CELCOM a very successful VSAT operator, said Feroz Khan, ViaSat regional director for South East Asia. Were proud to be associated with the leading telecom service providers in Malaysia.
