More ViaSat News
ViaSat Inc. has delivered two satellite communication system hubs based on the new, more efficient DVB-S2 global standard. The new DVB-S2 waveform offers up to 30% greater bandwidth efficiency substantially reducing network operating costs. ViaSat hub-based LinkStar S2 and mesh architecture LinkWay S2 VSAT systems are interoperable as well, enabling powerful and flexible hybrid star/mesh network configurations. The customers using the new S2 systems are an Internet service provider in New Zealand and a major stock exchange in China. Both new hubs are scheduled to be in operation by the end of June.
In April, ViaSat obtained a Certificate of Compliance for its LinkStar VSAT system from SatLabs, the group tasked with certifying the interoperability of satellite terminal products using the Digital Video Broadcast Return Channel Satellite (DVB-RCS) standard. The tests verify that the LinkStar broadband satellite terminal complies with the standard and is able to interoperate with other DVB-RCS systems.
The LinkStar system was designed from the start to be DVB-RCS ready. Since its introduction in 2001, nearly 25,000 terminals and 57 hubs have been installed in Asia, with close to 80,000 terminals shipped worldwide. Any of those systems can be configured to DVB-RCS operation through a software download. ViaSat will also continue to offer its own non-RCS LinkStar products.
