Ceremony Will Mark National Security Agency Certification of ViaSat KG-250 and MIDS LVT-1

2004-10-27 - Information Security

Baltimore, MD - Mr. Daniel G. Wolf, Information Assurance Director of the National Security Agency will formally present ViaSat, Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT) with NSA certification for multiple products at a signing ceremony at ViaSats Airport Square Office in Baltimore today (10/27). The certifications recognize NSA approval to pass US Government Classified Information over two ViaSat products: the KG-250 IP Network Encryptor and the MIDS LVT-1 Tactical Data Link terminal.

The KG-250, certified in early July, is in compliance with the High Assurance Internet Protocol Interoperability Specification (HAIPIS). The KG-250 is more portable and less expensive to operate than current Type-1 encryptors, and can process full duplex 100 Megabit Ethernet IP traffic. The KG-250 was certified under the National Security Agency Commercial COMSEC Endorsement Program, a program by which the NSA monitors development, performs security evaluations, and certifies Information Assurance products conceived and developed with private funding.

After a two-year qualification process ViaSat officially became a new third source MIDS supplier for the Department of the Navy by winning its first MIDS LVT-1 production contract in 2000. The Multifunction Information Distribution (MIDS) Low Volume Terminal (LVT) has been chosen internationally for digital communications, relative navigation, and identification of airborne platforms, naval ships and ground-based weapon systems. On March 29, 2002 ViaSat made its first delivery of a fully acceptance-tested MIDS LVT-1 terminal to the MIDS International Program Office. The initial terminal deliveries were provided to the F/A-18 program. This past May the company delivered its 200th MIDS LVT. To-date total ViaSat MIDS orders (including MIDS LVT-2) total approximately $222 million and nearly 750 terminals.
