 <title>ViaSat Receives F-35 Lightning II U.S. Reprogramming Laboratory Award</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;i&gt;$12 Million Follow-on Radio Frequency (RF) Stimulator Award&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;ViaSat Inc. has received a $12 million award from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. for the manufacture, integration, test, and delivery of a Communication, Navigation, and Identification (CNI) Function Stimulator (CFS) for avionics testing of&amp;nbsp;F-35 Lightning II aircraft, also known as the Joint Strike Fighter.&amp;nbsp;This follow-on CNI Stimulator is an integral part of the Verification and Validation Facility (VVF) for the U.S. Reprogramming Laboratory (USRL) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. ViaSat delivery of the CFS to Lockheed Martin is scheduled for 2010.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The complexity of the avionics systems in state-of-the-art fighter aircraft requires realistic test environments and accurate signal representation. ViaSat RF stimulators provide a true-to-life CNI test environment and reduce the cost of in-flight testing.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;For more than 10 years ViaSat has been developing and delivering CNI test systems to DoD customers. &lt;a href=&quot;../../../../../government-communications/rf-signal-stimulation&quot;&gt;RF stimulation&lt;/a&gt; from ViaSat goes beyond ordinary simulation and computer modeling techniques to actually stimulate the avionics environment with real signals of RF energy, including RF jamming and background signals. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

 <title>New VDC-800 Data Controller Brings IP and USB Connections to Tactical Edge Warfighters</title>

&lt;p&gt;Carlsbad, CA &amp;ndash; ViaSat Inc. is introducing the VDC-800 Data Controller to offer secure IP and USB connections to warfighters on the tactical edge. The new product is part of a focus on using the ViaSat Data Controller (VDC) product family to create systems that help warfighters accomplish their missions. The VDC-800 advances the ViaSat &amp;quot;IP to the Tactical Edge&amp;quot; approach to warfighter communications by adding the high-speed, plug-and-play USB interface to the VDC product line. VDCs extend IP and TCP/IP networking to the soldier, sailor, airman, or marine on the leading edges of the battlespace.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Used with any current tactical radio, those in combat can connect the VDC-800 via USB to a computer or handheld device to run IP-based critical combat communications applications, such as Situational Awareness, whiteboard collaboration, chat, messaging, and email, almost as if they were at their own desktop computer. Warfighters can also use the VDC-800 to transmit core data elements for military interoperability, including Direct Fire Mission, Blue Force Tracking, surveillance results, and airspace deconfliction information (sharing flight activity information to increase air safety).&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Ruggedized to MIL-STD-810F, the VDC-800 offers true interoperability and flexibility for any kind of mission. It features powerful error-correction to transmit maps, images, and other data over noisy half-duplex, low data rate radio communication channels. This USB Data Controller creates network-centric connections that link tactical edge warfighters to the Common Operational Picture.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Carlsbad, CA&lt;/b&gt; ViaSat is introducing the &amp;quot;IP to the Tactical Edge&amp;quot; approach to warfighter communications using demonstrations at the 2006 USSOCOM Advanced Planning Brief to Industry (APBI) in Tampa, June 19-23, and at the Coast Guard Innovation Conference in Tampa, June 26-28. ViaSat IP to the Tactical Edge extends IP networking for any mission and critical application traditionally used on high-speed IP networks to the soldier, sailor, airman, or marine on the leading edges of the battlespace.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;As a networking and communications company, enabling IP networking for the warfighter is a logical step in ViaSat&#039;s continuing commitment to supporting military men and women in the tactical environment. Using tactical radios along with ViaSat Data Controller (VDC) error-correction and data processing products, IP to the Tactical Edge enables net-centric connections and provides the mechanism for those in combat to run unmodified applications such as situational awareness, chat, messaging, and email almost as if they were at their own desktop computer. Because VDCs work with most secure radios deployed today, including handheld radios, true interoperability and flexibility become key features of IP to the Tactical Edge.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;quot;These demonstrations allow us to show how we can create systems to provide any IP-based application over radios the warfighters already have, so they can immediately realize the benefits of the Global Information Grid,&amp;quot; said Jerry Goodwin, VP of ViaSat Network Systems. &amp;quot;The VDC-500 Advanced Data Controller/IP and the VDC-600 Personal Data Controller products will be featured in the demonstrations. With these products the IP network is being extended using existing narrowband radios, allowing ViaSat to provide the warfighter with more network centric capabilities until more capable products like ViaSat JTRS radios become available.&amp;quot;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In addition to the trade show demonstrations, the New Zealand armed forces will demonstrate the IP to the Tactical Edge initiative in action during the 2006 Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (CWID) throughout the month of June. ViaSat is also providing off-the-shelf broadband bandwidth-on-demand (BoD) IP satellite terminals for CWID, providing SATCOM reach-back for the tactical network, completing IP to the Tactical Edge.&lt;/p&gt;
