Carlsbad, Calif. – October 20, 2011 – ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT) has announced that International Launch Services has successfully launched ViaSat-1, the highest capacity satellite in the world. The Proton M launch vehicle lifted off from pad 39 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, at 11:48 am (PDT) October 19, followed by spacecraft separation from the launch vehicle at 9:00 pm PDT, signal acquisition shortly thereafter, and finally deployment of both the north and south solar arrays.

The delay is due to the launch failure of the Russian Federal Mission with the Express AM4 communication satellite that occurred on August 18.

Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) and ViaSat today announced that the consumer broadband satellite service they are partnering to offer in Europe will be rolling out next month in Germany, with other selected European markets to follow before the end of the year. The service will be similar to the WildBlue service and use our SurfBeam® satellite DOCSIS system. The announcement was made earlier today at the IFA show in Berlin.
